What is your favorite mop?
So, we're talking about mopping floors today, and I'm curious:
What is your favorite mop? Do you like traditional string mops? Or, sponge mops? Or are you a convert to the Swiffer?
I love the Clorox mop system; the spray smells nice and clean and the pads are thick and take up a LOT of dirt and spills! I got a second one for the upstairs bathroom so I don't have to drag it up and down the stairs. LOVE your column! A fellow happy slob, Miz GG
mcar - that is so ironic! Last week when I was grocery shopping I saw that 'mopping system' for the first time and I was intrigued...it smells like almonds?? Yum!
Elsie, I'm a low-tech mopper too! But, I have to admit that the Method mopping system sounds intriguing...and delicious-smelling. And I'm a sucker for anything that smells like almonds, or almond cookies like mcar said!
I prefer the good old string mop I can buy at the dollar store, along with my plastic mop bucket with the little attachment on top to wring the mop out. I bought the bucket at Walmart a few years back for $5, and it's still going strong.
I also own one of the Clorox mop system-thing-a-ma-bobs, but I only use it occasionally. For small spills. For a really good cleaning, I use the "old reliables".
I've tried many types of mops on my tile floors. I finally found one that isn't a mop at all. I bought a rubber/sylacone broom that does a good job on dirt, dust and cat hair. When I mop, I cover the head with a wet microfiber cloth. That way, I have a broom if I need it and a wet mop with four sides. I keep a spray bottle of water ready for really gunky spots that need extra sloshing. It works for me. jeaninholland
Ilike the wringer string mob that you can take the head off and wash it..but, i heard of a wonderful way to really enjoy yourself while cleaning your floor...stick a maxi pad on the bottom of your sox, turn on your favorite dance music and dance away while spraying and mopping all at the same time...works for me..lol
I bought a Swiffer Wet Jet last month and I am in mopping heaven!! lol I always hated wringing the old mop out and I would put off mopping so that I wouldn't have to drag out all the stuff. It is so much easier with the Wet Jet.
I have tried them all and have gone back to the traditional string mop with bucket and wringer. It's more economical than Swiffer, and all those little strings can be whipped under furniture and into corners etc. better than a sponge mop.
I own a cleaning service and I've found out that you just can't beat the old string mops and the commercial mop bucket. You can get the bucket and wringer at Wal-mart for around $40 and you will NEVER need to replace it! The mop handle will cost you about $8.00, and you can get the mop heads for around $5 each (don't get the cheap dollar store brands). I suggest you purchase a couple of them so you always have one clean. Just toss them in the washer with a little bleach when you're done using them!
This system saves your hands from wringing the mop, and works well with virtually all floor types. Just be sure to use plain water on hardwoods and wring out your mop until it's just barely damp. If you really want to shine those floors, add a cap full of Murphy's Oil Soap to your mop water!

I prefer a micro sponge mop. Drying time is less with these.

ReplyDeleteI love the flip it mop by bissel. You can vacumn and flip the handle and mop. The kids were even able to use it after my surger.
ReplyDeleteWow, I feel so low tech! I use an ordinary sponge mop with a built-in wringer. DH prefers the string style and a real janitor's bucket.

ReplyDeletelike the micro-fiber mops from QVC. Very good quality & price! I use my essential oils to clean with. Cinnamon is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI also have used the steam cleaner from Linens & Things. I LOVE that!! Cleans & dries immediately!
I have the swiffer dry and the wet jet. I like them both for quick clean ups, but I am thinking of investing in a "real" mop. :)

ReplyDeleteI like the microfiber mops too. Just rip off the pad and throw it in the washer. No sticky sponge or string mop hanging around and drys quicker too.

Oh, I hate doing my floor. I don't use a mop. I use a swifter once in a while because I can throw the thing in the garbage when done.
