How long do Dyson cleaners really last?

I need your opinions, guys. How long do Dyson vacuum cleaners really last? For our next cleaner, I wouldn't mind saving up for one of these suckers, but I really need convincing that it's worth the extra cost. If you have a Dyson, how long have you had it? AND...is it really true that it doesn't lose its suction over time?

Vacuums - the one appliance you really WANT to suck. :)

I love mine... hubby got it for me for Christmas 2 or 3 years ago... it still works perfectly and I love that I can see what comes out of my carpet each time I vacuum.

Hi I houseclean for a living, and the Dyson Rocks! THe only pit falls I see are: 1- They are heavy and hard to use on stairs. 2- They floor brush that comes with the canister version sucks you need to order an extra on 3-There's no blowout on it.... But I do love the sucking power, great I think if you have allergiers or something.
I think I would buy a canister electrolux, instead for the reasons stated above. If I had allergies I would choose the Dyson

I love my dyson. I have the model above the basic and have had it for over 5 years now. I so did not want to spend the money on it which was about 2 or 3 hundred dollars but at the time my husband and I both got a 100$ gift card to sears and he talked me into spending it on the Dyson. I have only had one part break and that was due to military movers and it was less than 15$ to replace. I love that you only have to wash the hepa filter as opposed to buying a new one every month and the one touch release to empty out the dirt is awesome. Best vacuum ever!!! My neighbor borrowed it when hers broke and then she went and bought a new one herself. When we first got it and used it I remember pulling up carpet powder that I hadn't used in 6 months... yuck!!! Now I have hard wood floors through out the living room and hall and I still use it everyday! (well lets me honest, every other day ;) ) Well worth the money hands down!! PS I hate spending money on big ticket items, I think it causes me physical pain, but if and when this one dies I will gladly drop another 400$ on a new one.

Wow, they sound so amazing...and that seems to be common. Everyone who has one raves about them! We had enough Air Miles left to get a vacuum for free, so we got a different one, but I know it'll likely only last a few years and then I'll be willing to buy a Dyson! Thanks for the input, you guys. Frances - lol - you sound a lot like me, speaking of physical pain when you have to plunk down a good deal of money. :)
Take care all,
Christina

LOL ya, they don't lose suction!! and they don't clog!! they are the bomb!! and hers can vacuum on the hardwood floor!! how awesome is that?? its only missing the dusting thingi!! LOL now if it'd only do the laundry!! **grin**

I have the small version of the Dyson for TheLuxPod. It is perfect for such a small space. The downside is the charge lasts only 3 minutes. The upside is it can be cleaned very easily and there are no bags to purchase. For a larger size vacuum cleaner one can't beat Miele. I have two and one of them is over 25 years old and is still working brilliantly. It is more powerful than the Dyson. It is easy to compare.

We are a small domestic cleaning company and use Dyson vacuum cleaners. We've been using them for the past 3 years and they still work as new.

For personal use they are amazing, 3 years old and still going strong, even the bags take in more than our company vacuums--which last about 6 months and bags fill in no time.

We have the standard yellow one, about 5-6 years now, wont pick up squat anymore, had it repaired/cleaned still nothing, would have thought for the money would have lasted a few more years, won't buy another one!

Mine is still working well after 9 years. I've had to change the filters & an internal hose so a total additional investment of about £10.

i have own a dyson and the look and sound good but the truth is if you have carpet dont get one i had mine for 2 or 3 years and then i thought there was a problem so i sent it to my mister fix it grand father and he could not find the problem so i upgraded to a simplicity synergy now there is a bit of sticker shock at a little over a grand but its made in the states, lasts at least 40 years and if you replace dirt devils and hoovers and vacuums of that type as they "die" in 25 years you will pay at least 2 grand i hope this is helpful

I realize I'm a little late but....
I had an original Dyson animal for 10 years.
I never had a proffesional cleaning or service done on it and it ROCKED!!!
I decided to retire it last summer and get a new DC 25 Animal plus a bunch of accessories etc totaling $610, well Ill sat this currently im using a $42 Bissell I bought after the 3 Rd time the Dyson broke. I hate my new Dyson, the brusher motor is on the brusher bar and it stopped working in December for the 3 Rd time.
Dyson will send a replacement but it takes 4-6 weeks and I vacuum daily (child has bad allergies) so I gave up and my beautiful purple Dyson is collecting dust in the garage while my Bissell is rockin and rolling in the cleaning closet.

Unfortunately Dyson will not get any more of my business and although they have some awesome products the DC. 25 is not one of them :-(
