Non Toxic Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

This formula was originally posted as a comment on a recent blog entry about which dishwasher detergent really works. It's such a great tip, that I had to share it with you all in a regular post! Thanks to theEcoEngineer for submitting. I can't wait to give this a go and report back to all you Happy Slobbos around the world. And if you have a dishwasher tip to share, send it in or simply post it as a comment. "I have a recipe for a non-toxic home-made dishwashing detergent. Mix equal parts of borax and baking soda and store in a tightly sealed container. Use 2 tablespoons per load. If you have hard water, double the amount of baking soda in your mixture. For either mixture, use vinegar in the rinse cycle. The last step is the most important, by far! Vinegar works like a rinsing and drying agent, and should be used with any dishwashing detergent. It also helps keep the filter and drain clear because of its slightly acidic pH. "

Love your blog! I am always in need of house cleaning advice and tips. I have heard a lot of people have been making their own cleaning products and raving about it. I am going to have to try this. Thanks again!

Thank you for posting this recipe. I have chemical sensitivities and use borax and soda all the time, but had not thought of putting the two together for the dishwasher.

I shared the recipe with my sister as well.

Hey, love this blog! It's not exactly a natural approach but adding a little bit of OxyClean does wonders. If you ever want to remove labels from wine or beer bottles, it's the way to go.

Since i was a little girl i learned with my mother how to use essential oils. In my house, everything was made natural with essential oils. My mother always taught us how to make some splashes from essential oils, to use on the beds while folding them or when changing the sheets. Years ago we decided to open a cleaning company. And we created Aromatherapy House Cleaning, that today is called "Elite Skyline", and we used all the recipes that my mother used back then. I would like to share with you, one of our best products, which my crew calls "The Magic Paste".
Elite Skyline Aromatherapy Soft Scrub:

1 cup of baking soda
1 cup of borax
1/2 cup of castile soap
10 drops of lavender essential oil
10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil,
5 drops of Tea Tree.
Mix all together until you get a somewhat of a frosting like paste. Store into a dark jar to protect the essential oils.

Uses:
Shower, Sink, Bath Tub, Kitchen, Hard water spots.
You Will Love It!

Thanks for the "recipe" for homemade dishwashing soap. I am going to make a batch and see how my dishes look. Vinegar is such a great weapon against grime!

This will be a big help to mommies who have kids that are always curious about what they are doing in the sink.
