Come up with an inspirational saying that will motivate YOU to get up off your bum and start cleaning. It can be funny, such as: "I don't want to turn into my mother-in-law!" or it could be serious, such as: "I'm going to devote 10 minutes to cleaning right now. Up and at 'em!" Or, it could be as wacky as: "Come on you slobbo, time for a cleaning burst!"
Come up with a saying that will work for you. Mine is going to be: "10 Minutes from now, what will I have accomplished?" If it's nothing worthwhile, then it's time to do a cleaning burst...or work a bit on a focus room. Or tackle a bit of decluttering. Whatever - 10 minutes really do make a huge difference. Try it and you'll see that for yourself.
PS. And...motivate yourself to action with a small reward at the end of the task. Maybe a nice cup of tea, or a telephone call to a friend, or an extra few minutes to read that novel you love so much. Whatever it is - rewarding yourself is certainly a good way to get motivated to clean - especially at first, before good new habits have kicked in.
Right and speaking of those good cleaning habits -- The Happy Slob's Guide to Housecleaning is your 1st step to undertaking new - fun and easy! - cleaning habits. If you still don't have your own personal copy, hop over there and pick one up. It'll do amazing things for your motivation. :) And I promise it's not scary in the least. In fact, it's good CLEAN (hardy har har) fun...
