Essential Oil of the Day - Orange Oil

Orange essential oil is a fantastic one to add to your essential oil collection, for cleaning and making fun homemade toiletries. It is reputed to make a person feel peaceful, and a general sense of happiness. (THAT always helps when you're elbow deep in sudsy water, right?)

Orange (and many other citrus oils) EO has great grease cutting action, so it's an ideal EO to use when you're cleaning any greasy surface, such as the stove or greasy kitchen cabinets. Plus, it really smells fantastic - as if you just peeled into a great, fat orange for a snack.

For all these reasons, it's a great addition to homemade cleaners. So, for a slight change on our regular VERY VINEGAR cleaner, try adding about 6-8 drops of orange essential oil. Combine all together in a small spray bottle & give the bottle a good shake every time before using.

I want to know where to buy essential oils that are good but not pricey. We are on a small budget as we both are disabled. Our finances are very limited. Many month we had no money for food at all. So I really need some answers here. I love lavendar and eucluptis )sp) and orange oil.

Hey Cheryl,

:) First of all - food always comes before essential oils! (And I totally know where you're coming from, by the way. We are by NO MEANS well off - we're on a budget too.)

A lot of the cleaning tips & recipes I share don't have EOs in them, so you can always use those if you don't have any essential oils. The ideas using baking soda and vinegar are great because those will cost you WAY LESS than usual commercial cleaners.

If you do have a little extra money, you can find good deals on essential oils online at eBay. OR...try calling around in your area. Drug stores, health food stores, craft stores - these all will carry at least some essential oils and you can ask them for their prices and how large a bottle the EOs come in. Then you can figure out where you're truly getting the best value. :) It pays to shop around before buying.

Huge hugs to you,
Christina

Orange oil that is suitable for laundry and household cleaning is available at nurseries and garden centers. I pay about 13 dollars for a quart and $28 for a gallon. It is used to kill bugs and can be mixed with vinegar to use as an herbicide. It also repels spiders and other insects when sprayed outdoors and it smells wonderful. It is not as purely refined as essential oils but works beautifully. I like to wash the dogs beds and towels with orange oil. It smells fresh and clean.
